Senior Construction Manager - Commercial Retail Construction

We're seeking an experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to join our growing General Contracting Division in Plano, TX. This is a highly visible role responsible for overseeing commercial retail construction programs from preconstruction through closeout while managing project teams, client relationships, budgets, schedules, and operational performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Lead multiple commercial construction projects through all phases of delivery.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents.
  • Drive project strategy, execution, and successful outcomes.

Preconstruction & Planning

  • Oversee budgeting, scheduling, constructability reviews, and risk analysis.
  • Partner with estimating, design, and operations teams to develop project plans.
  • Support subcontractor procurement, scope development, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Manage project budgets, forecasting, cost control, and profitability.
  • Review and approve change orders, invoices, and pay applications.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop project management staff.
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Support workforce planning and succession development within the business unit.

Client & Subcontractor Management

  • Build long-term relationships with clients and project partners.
  • Lead project status meetings and executive-level communications.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, scope execution, quality, and schedule compliance.

Quality & Safety

  • Promote a culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety programs.
  • Oversee quality control processes and project closeout activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4-year degree in an accredited construction related program or equivalent; or eight to fifteen years construction experience with increasing responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven success delivering large-scale commercial, healthcare, education, or multi-family projects with a general contractor.
  • Background supporting restaurant, grocery, convenience store, or big-box retail projects preferred.
  • Deep understanding of construction means and methods, cost control, scheduling, and safety.
  • Proficiency in construction software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera).
  • OSHA 30, or ability to acquire, is required
  • State/local General Contractors license is preferred.
  • PMP and CQMC preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation or experience with sustainable building practices is preferred
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.

Pay & Benefits:

The anticipated compensation range for the position is $125,000 to $150,000, is based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a matching 401K plan.

  • This is a hybrid role with up to 50% travel to projects nationwide.
