Foreman

Department: Construction Services
Location: Fort Meade, MD

Summary: The Foreman leads and supervises self-performing construction crews on a variety of residential military housing projects.. The Foreman is responsible for daily field operations, ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and company standards. This hands-on role requires strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of construction practices, and the ability to manage labor, materials, and equipment on active job sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Crew Supervision & Leadership

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate the activities of self-perform labor crews (e.g., carpentry, concrete, demolition, framing, finishes).
  • Assign tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure proper execution of work according to plans and specifications.
  • Train, mentor, and support crew members to promote skill development and teamwork.
  • Enforce project schedule and deadlines by efficiently allocating labor and resources.

Field Execution

  • Interpret and execute construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Perform layout, quality checks, and field measurements to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and resolve issues or conflicts in the field, escalating to the Superintendent or Project Manager as needed.
  • Oversee site logistics including material handling, tool management, and equipment utilization.

Quality Control

  • Ensure all self-performed work meets company quality standards and complies with contract documents.
  • Conduct daily inspections of work in progress and correct deficiencies proactively.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC personnel to facilitate inspections and testing.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe job site by enforcing company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ensure PPE compliance.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and organization on site.

Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with the Superintendent, Project Manager, and subcontractors to align schedules and coordinate tasks.
  • Attend and contribute to foreman meetings, safety meetings, and planning sessions.
  • Maintain clear communication with team members, management, and other trades.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Track and report daily labor hours, production quantities, and material usage.
  • Assist with daily reports, timesheets, equipment logs, and work progress updates.
  • Monitor and request tools, materials, and supplies as needed to maintain workflow.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 5–10 years of hands-on construction experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  • Proven ability to lead crews on self-perform work (e.g., concrete, framing, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, drywall).
  • Strong knowledge of construction techniques, safety practices, and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30, or ability to acquire, is required.
  • First Aid/CPR, or ability to acquire, is required
  • Bilingual a plus

Pay & Benefits:

The anticipated compensation range for the position is $60,000 to $70,000 is based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a matching 401K plan.

Work Conditions & Travel:

This is a fully on-site role at the project location(s). Must have ability to stoop, stand, climb, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine. Involves movement between floors, and properties to facilitate work. Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
