Senior Estimator, Construction

We are looking for a Senior Estimator to join our Construction Services team. This role is responsible for working with clients, architects/engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to plan cost factors for construction projects and program roll outs for Sevan's clients. Our Senior Estimator will be responsible for analyzing construction documents, proposals, and other documentation to prepare efficient time, cost, and labor estimates. The Senior Estimator will also provide leadership, training, and mentorship to their teammates. This is a hybrid role (office + home remote) in our Dallas, TX office for candidates local to the Dallas or Plano, TX area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret project documents to prepare clear, complete, subcontractor scope of works and bid packages
  • Create project Invitation to Bid for subcontractors on Building Connected or other bidding platforms
  • Review project documents to create RFI’s (Request for Information) for submission to Architect
  • Review project documents to determine risks to Sevan and assist Bid Leader in the creation of the Risk Register
  • Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment of the cost estimates.
  • Visit project sites and provide Sevan with a detailed site assessment using Sevan’s Capture software
  • Responsible for providing quantity take-offs of building elements to determine material and labor costs utilizing on-screen computer take-off software.
  • Manage team in identifying qualified subcontractors and establish and maintain bid solicitation lists
  • Review subcontractor RFI’s to determine if they need to be included in the RFI to Architect list or if they can be answered internally
  • Investigate local market conditions and their effect on costs and schedule
  • Provide review of subcontractor quotes to assure they meet the intent of the specific scope of work and are in line with Sevan’s contractual requirements
  • Create and estimate sheet breaking down elements of the bid using either MasterFormat or Uniformat divisions
  • Write clear and concise qualifications and exclusions to proposals
  • Support the Estimating Manager by Implementing tasks and process improvement objectives
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in reducing costs and improving processes
  • Any additional duties, as assigned

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience estimating in the construction industry, ideally for small site restaurant, retail, and residential projects
  • Adaptable to taking direction from multiple teams, operations departments, and team members
  • Have the ability to estimate multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to provide quantity take-offs of building elements to determine material and labor costs utilizing computer software
  • Proven success as an adaptable, independent worker in a fast pace environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent; or
  • 10+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated mastery in the skills of Preconstruction, Estimating, and Project Management
  • Experience in Government projects a plus
  • Knowledge of Smartsheet, and Takeoff software (OST or similar), Bluebeam, Excel, etc.
  • Familiarity with computerized pricing systems
